Dr. OMAR MOHAMED AL-ANSARI
Dr. Omar Mohamed Al-Ansari is a distinguished academic and administrative figure at Qatar University. He graduated from the College of Engineering in 1990 and subsequently became a teaching assistant in the Department of Civil Engineering. He furthered his studies at the University of Texas in the United States, obtaining his master’s degree in 1993 and his PhD in Civil Engineering in 1999. Following this, he assumed a faculty position in the College of Engineering and held various administrative roles. He served as the Academic Programs Coordinator at the College of Engineering from 2001 to 2003, and then became the Dean of Student Affairs in 2003, followed by serving as an assistant to the Vice President of the University in 2004. From 2007 to 2015, he served as the Vice President for Student Affairs, and since 2015, he has been the Vice President for Academic Affairs. On 18 June 2023, he was appointed President of the University.
Throughout his extensive career spanning over two and a half decades, Dr. Omar has been involved in numerous projects, research endeavors, and committee memberships at both the university and national levels. Notably, he contributed to the Qatar University Development Project and served on the Equivalency Committee. He also held membership in several education and engineering associations and unions. Dr. Omar’s significant contributions have propelled scientific research and made remarkable advancements within the university and the nation.
Under his leadership in Academic Affairs, the university has completed several research projects that have supported FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. Additionally, these endeavors encompassed a wide range of areas, including infrastructure development, agricultural improvement, and the university’s participation in space research. Moreover, he made significant contributions to shaping the scientific research at the university, ensuring its alignment with national priorities and the National Vision 2030 agenda.
He played a fundamental and significant role in preparing for the university’s digital transformation across various aspects and curricula, which was spearheaded by the Digital Learning and Online Education Office. He actively fostered innovation in education, learning, and research while forging stronger ties between the university and external institutions. Additionally, he worked on developing the university’s vision and strategy, increasing its scientific and social impact, attracting distinguished researchers and scholars to the institution, and achieving a range of updates, developments, and achievements that have contributed to its realization.
In addition to the above, Dr. Omar has been a member of numerous national and international academic institutions and organizations, leaving a clear mark on the university and beyond. He has received several appreciation awards from academic institutions both domestically and internationally. Under his presidency, the university will achieve significant positive transformations on various levels, meeting the internal needs of its staff and the external demands of the labor market and national requirements. It will take progressive steps towards enhancing its scientific, research, and societal standing not only within Qatar but also across the Arab region and the world.
Prof. Champion N. Nyoni
Champion is an Associate Professor and Senior Researcher at the School of Nursing of the University of the Free State, in South Africa. He is a professional nurse who holds registration as a nurse in three countries within sub-Saharan Africa. Champion obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Science from the University of Zimbabwe, a Master of Social Science in Nursing from the University of the Free State, a Master of Health Professions Education with a specialisation in Assessment and Accreditation (with distinction) from Keele University in the United Kingdom and a Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing from the University of the Free State. He also holds a Fellowship with the sub-Saharan FAIMER regional institute (SAFRI) and an International Fellowship in Medical Education.
He has more than 10 years’ experience in primary healthcare and nursing education. Champion was instrumental in developing competency-based programmes for undergraduate nursing education in various contexts within the African region. His research, which has been published in various platforms focuses on the development of a competent workforce that can influence the health parameters of the contexts they serve. He supervises Master and PhD students in nursing and in health professions education.

Dr Alla El-Awaisi
Dr Alla received her Master of Pharmacy degree from Strathclyde University in Glasgow (UK), MSc in Prescribing Science from the Robert Gordon University (UK) and PhD in Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice from the Robert Gordon University (UK). She is an experienced academic administrator possessing creativity, innovation and dedication to her field. Prior to her academic career, she practiced pharmacy in Scotland for more than 9 years. She was the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs at the College of Pharmacy (2014-2022) and is the founding the chair of the Interprofessional Education Committee since 2014 and has led successful IPE initiatives locally and internationally including leading the First Middle Eastern Conference in Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice in December 2015. In addition to developing and coordinating the Interprofessional Education for Collaborative Practice module in MSc in Health Professions Education. She is an active member of the Global Confederation for Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice and leads the Interprofessional Collaborative Arab Network (IPCAN) and is a Co-facilitator of Interprofessional.
Global Global Impact. Her research expertise lies in the area of interprofessional education and collaborative practice, patient safety, medical and pharmacy education, pharmacy practice, student leadership and has published numerous articles in peer reviewed journals. She has received many awards including being the winner of the “Professional Achievement Award” in the National Study UK Alumni Awards 2019-20 in Qatar.
Dr. Barbara Maxwell
Dr. Barbara Maxwell is Associate Dean & Executive Director of the Interprofessional Practice and Education Center at Indiana University. She is a professor of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at IU School of Medicine and adjunct Professor of Physical Therapy in the School of Health & Human Science.
Dr. Maxwell has been involved in interprofessional education and collaborative practice since the late 1980’s when she was involved with interprofessional teams in cardiac rehabilitation, and with rapid response community teams for individuals recovering from a stroke. She has worked in this field in the US, Europe, and Asia, and is active in the Interprofessional world both nationally and internationally.
She is a member of the American Interprofessional Health Collaborative (AIHC) and serves as the AIHC representative to Interprofessional.Global: The Global Confederation for Interprofessional Practice and Education. She has served on the Council of the National Academies of Practice and was the inaugural chair of the Physical Therapy Academy.
She is an a member of InterprofessionalResearch.Global, an international collaborative organization focused on bringing together experts in the field to advance interprofessional practice, research, and theory generation, at the global level.

Keynote Title: Deconstructing ‘All Together Better Health’: What’s in a word?
Biography: After graduating from medical school in London, England, Professor Thistlethwaite became a general practitioner (family doctor) and worked for 10 years in the north of England and was involved in GP education. In 1996, she moved into academia at the University of Leeds and have subsequently worked in health professional education in the UK and Australia. She has a MMEd from the University of Dundee and a PhD from the University of Maastricht. For over 25 years, she has been a champion for IPE and is a senior associate editor of the Journal of Interprofessional Care. Also, she was editor-in-chief of The Clinical Teacher from 2014-2020. Professor Thistlethwaite writing includes 13 authored/edited books, and over 30 book chapters and 120 peer-reviewed papers, many focused on IPE. In 2020, she was awarded the President’s Medal by the Association for the Study of Medical Education (ASME) and in 2022 the Pioneer Award by the National Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education.
MR. JIM CAMPBELL
Biography: Mr Campbell oversees the development and implementation of global public goods, evidence and tools to inform investments in the education, employment and retention of the health and care workforce in pursuit of global health security, universal health coverage and the Sustainable Development Goals. His present portfolio includes measuring the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the health and care workforce, and implementation of WHO’s Global Strategy on Human Resources for Health: Workforce 2030.

Breaking the Silos and Reimagining Possibilities: Using Simulation and Digital Platforms to Create a Theatre of Engagement in Interprofessional Education
The COVID-19 pandemic challenged our ways of working and led to new and innovative ways of engaging health students in simulation. This presentation will challenge traditional views of simulation and explore new and exciting platforms. It will showcase multi-modal simulation as a way to overcome the issues of scheduling that often hamper Interprofessional learning.
Biography:
Professor Jane Frost is a passionate nurse, experienced academic, simulation researcher, and TEDx Speaker. Her work explores both simulation and technology enhanced learning modalities including extended reality (XR), and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Jane uses experiential learning to promote empathy and understanding in health students. Jane is a passionate advocate of Interprofessional learning and preparing students for clinical realities and recently won a national Australian Award for University teaching. Dr Frost is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy
DR. AHMED HANKIR
Dr Ahmed Hankir MBChB MRCPsych is Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Mental Health Research in association with Cambridge University, Public Engagement and Education Lead at the World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Mental Health and Human Rights at the Institute of Mental Health in Nottingham University and a practicing psychiatrist at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. Dr Hankir’s research interests include global and Muslim mental health and pioneering and evaluating innovative interventions that reduce mental health related stigma and he has published extensively in these areas. Dr Hankir is passionate about empowering, dignifying and humanizing people living with mental health conditions and he has lectured to over 100,000 people in 20 countries worldwide. Dr Hankir is the recipient of numerous prestigious awards notably the 2022 World Health Organization Director General Award for Global Health, one of only six recipients in the world.

John H. V. Gilbert, C.M., Ph.D., LLD (Hon)., FCAHS
Dr. John Gilbert has been a seminal leader in the education of health professionals in British Columbia, Canada and globally. His vision and leadership led to the concept of interprofessional education being developed as a central tenet of collaborative person-centred practice and care.
Dr. John Gilbert is founding Principal & Professor Emeritus, College of Health Disciplines, University of British Columbia; a Senior Scholar, WHO Collaborating Centre on Health Workforce Planning and Research, Dalhousie University. He held the DR. TMA Pai Endowment Chair in Interprofessional Education & Practice, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, India, and is an Adjunct Professor, Faculty of Health, University of Technology, Sydney. He is Founding Chair, The Canadian Interprofessional Health Collaborative. He was Co-Chair of the WHO Study Group on Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice.
He was elected a Fellow, Canadian Academy of Health Sciences, in 2008; appointed a Member of the Order of Canada in 2011 and awarded the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2011. He received the degree Doctor of Laws, Honoris Causa from Dalhousie University in June 2016. Dr. Hassan Al Thani, MD, MBA, MBBch, CABS, FRCSI, FRCSC, FRCSP – GLASGOW, FACS, Sr. Consultant, Head, Trauma and Vascular Surgery Sections, Surgery Department Hamad General Hospital, Hamad Medical Corporation, Doha, Qatar.
Dr. Hassan Al Thani is the Head of Trauma and Vascular Surgery Sections of Hamad General Hospital, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ireland and Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and completed his surgical training in both Qatar and Canada. He completed his training in General Surgery, Trauma and Vascular Surgery at McMaster University Faculty of Health Sciences in Hamilton, Canada. In 2004, after completion of his training, he joined Hamad General Hospital as a Senior Consultant in the Department of Surgery. In the same year he established the Vascular Surgery Section. He has Master’s Degree in Logistics Hospitals Management from International Transport and Logistics Institute – Cairo, Egypt and recently finished his International Executive Master’s Degree in Emergency and Disaster Management in Georgetown University, Qatar.
Dr. Al Thani is the author or co-author of more than two hundred publications and peer-reviewed articles and he also has nine book chapters.
In addition, Dr. Al Thani was involved in a number of administrative duties which included Board Member of Hamad Medical Corporation from 2006-2008, Chairman of the Organ Transplant Committee from 2008-2009, Board Member of Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar from 2008 – 2012, Executive Board Member of the Gulf Vascular Society from 2007, President of the Gulf Vascular Society from 2009, and Board Member of Qatar Medical College and Chair of ATLS Chapter among others.

Dr. Anthony Breitbach is a Professor, Certified Athletic Trainer and Vice Dean in the Doisy College of Health Sciences at Saint Louis University after serving as Director of the Athletic Training Program for 15 years.He is highly engaged in scholarship, teaching and service around Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice.Dr. Breitbach has served on the Executive Committee of the American Interprofessional Health Collaborative (AIHC); helps lead Communication working groups for Interprofessional.Global and Interprofessional Research.Global; as well asserving on the International Committee of the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) and the Academic Institutions Committee of the World Federation of Athletic Training and Therapy (WFATT). He is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Interprofessional Care; Review Editor on the Editorial Board of Public Health Education and Promotion; and serves on the Scientific Committee for All Together Better Health XI in Doha, Qatar. Dr. Al Khal earned his MBBCh from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1989. He undertook his internship at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) in the State of Qatar, and in 1991,joined the Internal Medicine Residency Training Program at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, CT, USA, followed by completion of a 2-year fellowship in Infectious Diseases at Hartford Hospital. He was awarded the Diploma of the American Board in Internal Medicine in 1994 and Diploma of the American Board of Infectious Diseases in 1996. He was recertified in Infectious Disease in 2013.
Dr. Al Khal holds several clinical positions, chairs a variety of committees and has led number of strategic projects at HMC. Between 1999 – 2001, he served as the Chair of Family Medicine and as Chair of Department of Medicine from 2001 until 2012. Dr. Al Khal has been the Head of Infectious Diseases Division since 1998 and the Lead of the Communicable Disease Center and is also the National TB Program Manager and the Director of the Clinical AIDS Program. As Deputy Chief Medical Officer and Director of Medical Education/DIO, he has notably led HMC’s achievement of ACGME-I accreditation, and in 2018 received ACGME’s Physician International Award, to recognize his outstanding contributions to improving the quality of graduate medical education in Qatar. Dr. Al Khal also has an advisory role to several public health programs under the umbrella of Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health.
Dr. Al Khal has held a faculty appointment with Weill Cornell Medicine – Qatar since 2007 and was promoted to Adjunct Professor of Clinical Medicine in 2020. He also holds an appointment asClinical Professor of Medicine at Qatar University College of Medicine (QU CMED) as well as serves as QU CMED’s Director ofthe Clinical Affairs Department and was the College’s founding AssociateDean for Clinical Affairs.
He remains active in research and publishes regularly in the fields of Internal Medicine, Pharmacology, Infectious Diseases and Medical Education.
